Bespoke therapy.

This is a queer space in the image of bell hooks, who described it this way: “Queer not as being about who you are having sex with, that can be a dimension of it, but queer as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.” If you find yourself at-odds-with in some way, this space was created with you in mind. We each approach therapy in our own way, but what connects us is our commitment to nurturing that part of you that’s ready to get free.

Fern’s approach.

  • I work with individuals, groups, and couples/relationships. I’m based in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, and I meet with clients in-person and via telehealth.

I work with folks across the identity spectrum, and I specialize in offering queer, kink, poly, and gender-affirming therapy for LGBTQ+ folks and their loved ones. I am sex-positive, fat-positive, and as a white cis queer woman, I base my work on a foundation of antiracism and lifelong learning. I also frequently find myself working with fellow artists, organizers, and folks in leadership.

  • My approach to psychotherapy is relational-cultural and liberation-focused, though I also draw from narrative, existential, trauma recovery, sensorimotor, internal family systems, queer theory, and anti-colonial frameworks. I’m also a fan of using creativity to cultivate joy and combat burnout—maybe especially for folks who don’t see themselves as artists! I am committed to developing therapeutic relationships that are supportive, brave, and most of all, REAL. Healing happens in community. I know therapy is going well when I see folks begin to step out in new ways and take risks to develop deeper bonds.

  • I was trained as a generalist, though I pair particularly well with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, self-esteem, career development, fertility concerns, parenting identity/adjustment, grief/loss, trauma, abuse, assault, microaggressions, discrimination, coming out later in life, transition, gender and racial identity development.

Eric’s approach.

  • I work with individuals, groups, and couples/relationships. I meet with clients in-person in Andersonville as well as remotely via telehealth.

I work with folks of all backgrounds and identities, specializing in working with LGBTQ+/queer folks and the kink/leather communities. I have worked primarily in-community with queer folks navigating relational issues, processing trauma history, and managing life stress.

  • My approach to psychotherapy is relational-cultural, client-centered, and trauma-informed. My relational style is reflective, curious, warm, and attentive. I think of my clients as occupying the “driver’s seat” in session—we go where you want to go, and I’ll be beside you to collaborate and process with you during our journey together. In session, I am often listening for themes and patterns to name that we can explore. I know therapy is going well when clients bring more and more of their authentic selves to session.

  • My background in community mental health gave me a foundation working with a variety of clients, but I have pursued specialized training in trauma work as well as in LGBTQ+, sexuality, and gender-related issues. I work well with depression; anxiety; family, religious, and intergenerational/political trauma; substance use issues; masculinity and men’s issues; dating and hookup culture concerns; self-esteem and self-worth; burnout; relationship concerns; and the coming out process.

Insurance.

We are in-network providers with BlueCross/BlueShield PPO and Blue Choice plans. Our billing specialist will submit claims to your insurance company and you will be billed for what they do not cover (e.g., your deductible or co-pay).

New clients receive an estimate of benefits prior to their first appointment; this is provided as a courtesy and is not a guarantee of payment. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

We recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?

  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?

  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

  • Do I need written approval or preauthorization in order for services to be covered?

Important Policies.

Rates

$225 each for first two sessions that comprise the initial assessment; $200 for each 50-minute ongoing therapy session.

Good Faith Estimates

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the expected cost of any non-emergency items or services under the federal No Surprises Law. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give uninsured or self-pay clients an estimate of the total cost of recommended items or services in writing at least 1 business day before they are rendered. The purpose of the Good Faith Estimate requirement is to give individuals an opportunity to use the information to evaluate their healthcare options, manage care costs, and prevent surprise billing.

You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Payment

Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, Zelle, and all major credit cards as forms of payment. We also accept FSA cards.

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel in writing at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged a $50 late cancellation fee.
